Suzanna Linn

Suzanna Linn (formerly Suzanna De Boef) is Distinguished Professor of Political Science at The Pennsylvania State University. She is a Fellow and past President of the Society for Political Methodology. She is a co-author of A Practical Guide to Time Series Analysis (Cambridge University Press) and of The Decline of the Death Penalty and the Discovery of Innocence (Cambridge University Press), winner of the Gladys Kammerer Award. Linn received her PhD in political science from the University of Iowa.

Linn studies how people form judgments about the economy, how those judgments shape elections and public policy, and the time series methods such questions require. Her current work at CSMAP begins with the online economic conversation itself, asking who chooses to speak about the economy, whose voices dominate, and how public expression diverges from the same people's survey responses. A second project builds on that foundation, using measures of economic sentiment expressed on Twitter/X over time to ask whether discourse produced by this unrepresentative set of voices pulls public sentiment away from what material conditions imply, weakening the informational basis of economic voting.
