Cristian Vaccari

Vaccari is a Professor of Political Communication at the School of Social Sciences and Humanities and Director of the Centre for Research in Communication and Culture at Loughborough University. He also serves as a faculty research affiliate with NYU’s Center for Social Media and Politics, Editor in Chief of the International Journal of Press/Politics, and rapporteur for the Committee of Experts on Freedom of Expression and Digital Technologies of the Council of Europe.

Vaccari’s research looks at political communication in comparative perspectives with a focus on digital media. He also investigates how political parties, campaign organizations, and citizens engage with one another on digital media, as well as how they negotiate meanings, identities, resources, and power. His current book, Outside the Bubble: Social Media and Political Participation in Western Democracies, explores how social media is redefining the ways citizens encounter and engage with political information and the implications of that on Western democracies.
